    S50b30 Gearbox With M20?

    Hi guys,

There is a good chance that I can pick up a complete S50B30 M3 (US version) with gearbox, wiring haness, diff, cv shafts and what not. The engine will have to go, but what i want for my m20 turbo it's the gearbox and possible the flywheel.

My flyhweel it's the stock m20 with modeed "stock" PP and 4 puck sprung disc. I can't remember the diameter of the flywheel for the m20b25, does someone know? Also I don't know (didn't check yet) the diameter for the flywheel of the S50.

Anyways, what i would like to do and know it's, if I can use the ZF trans in my m20 and if it's a direct swap or what I would need extra to place it there? If the flywheel of the S50 it's bigger, i would like to use it in my m20 since my friend who runs a clutch shopp told me that if I can dropp a bigger flywheel there, he can build me a stronegr clutch system (it's slipping a bit) and if I can swap the whole thing into my m20....then whent he S50 sells, I will have to let it go with a transmision and was thinking to match the getrag260 with the m20flywheel PP and disc, throw out bearing and what not in case it can be done the way I want it mentioned lines above with the ZF trans and clutch of the M3 mated with my m20.

    Thanks for any tip.

lets see. the flywheel on the s50 is larger than the m20. i am running an s50 with a getrag260 gearbox, with the s50 flywheel and clutch, and the s50 starter bolted up to the getrag260. however the tranny is rotated about 10degrees to line up the 4 main bolts that go into the block, and the rest of the mounting bolts on the bottom dont line up at all (and are not used by most guys running 24v swap). a custom tranny brace is needed and the shift linkage has to be bent a lil bit.

i dont see why the reverse is not possible. the problems you will have are the reverse, the tranny will sit rotated to the other direction, but it will bolt up, and you could run the s50 flywheel and clutch with the s50 starter. you should do it.

Thanks for the info! That's what I thinking....if the S50 has been mated with the 260 with soem minnor mods, why wouldn't the ZF bolt in th eme20 with e30 chasis again with minnor mods.

Now, does someone knows what gear ratios has both gearboxs?

        Thanks
