    non-vanos oil chain tensioner.

    Hi guys.

My motor has a oil pump chain tensioner. I cant find the part number for this part. i also cant find pics of other motors with out the front covers to see if they have it. Im not sure what to do. I need a new one. Ive checked out like 30 different cars on real oem.

It actually looks alot like the tensioner in the m30/s38 motors.

My oil pump chain has way too much slack for me to want to not include the tensioner.

Im so confused and pissed off with this thing. This motor has been more problems than it was worth.

Thanks Matt Rhoads who lived in PA at the time and sold me a motor with a cracked head and all kinds of other bull shit. The wiring harness smoked the first time i turned the key and now i find half this tensioner that doesnt exist in the bottom of the oil pan. SICK!

    Any ideas guys?

Thanks and sorry for the rant

im sure Piercede30 would have the info you need. he is running a NVm50 as well. good luck finishing this up!

PS: my motor turned out to be a piece as well, so i ended up doing everything on the damn thing while i had it out of the car for just this reason.

OK. The oil pump chain doesn't have a tensioner. How much slack do you have in it? If it's more than 1/4-3/8 of an inch and it's not a new chain, I would get a new chain. I know I had a hell of a time trying to get my pump onto the chain and into place.
      Here's a picture:

Now, I have been watching your build. Here's what I think that tensioner may have been. #5 in the picture below:

Tensioner/guide rail obviously. Is there a part number on the side of it? I've looked over the 91-93 years and can't find anything listed. Worse case scenario is you get a new chain so you don't have to have a guide rail/tensioner.

Yea, its pretty wild. It has no numbers on it at all :( It looks almost identical to the ones in m30's im thinking about buying one just to see. if it works itll be worth the $20

im wondering if the oil pump has shims like m42's

I hear ya! Goes by Xmon, right? I paid him for a 4.10lsd and received a 4.10 open a couple years back. If you ever want to visit him, maybe we can carpool.

Any luck on this tensioner? I have only seen one other motor with this and could not find it in ETK anywhere.
