    1st attempt to start...no good

S52 OBDI with E34 harness. Engine cranks but fuel pump relay and o2 sensor relay not closing.

Can manually run pump by grounding the 85 terminal. Pump runs and fuel is being pumped to rail. Even after fuel is in rail, cranking doesn't give any indication of spark.

I can get the O2 relay to close by grounding the 85 terminal.

I can hear the ICV hum with key in 'run' position.

    I'm using a Treehouse adapter.

Checked engine grounds, both sides are tight, harness grounded to strut tower and to spot on the extra battery tray area.

Seems if the ICV is getting signal the O2 and fuel pump relays would too.

    Any suggestions?

I had a problem with my ICV humming and getting really hot. It was wired wrong (with some other things). I'm not sure but I think it shouldnt really make any sound at all. It should just be a valve that sits somewhere between open and closed (ie not moving). So whats that humming?? Do you get spark? Do the two relays activate on key-on? And yeah, what ECU?

Neither relay is closing with key "on". They are getting power from the other side.

        413 ECU with AA chip.

Wiring to the ICV should be OK, I looked up the color codes for the E34 and they were correct for that connector.

        It is the ICV humming...

I'm not really helping out much, but maybe my situation can give some insight.

I am having the same problem as you, with the same setup. I've got a red label 413 ecu. What year is your ECU? Mine has EWS on it. I guess the ones made in 95 had it.

I've got some random no-name chip in it. My guess for my car is that it's the chip not disabling EWS. That would explain the no spark, my fuel pump doesnt come on as well unless I jump it. I don't think EWS messes with the pump though :( So I am kinda lost atm. I've been putting off my project for a few months now. Not enough money :(

EWS definately messes with the pump.
It disables fuel pump, spark, and starter (starter obviously does not affect you). If you both have the same ECU you probably both have the same problem.
Dont know much about the AA chips though (I have the Siemens DME and just re-wired my EWS to work). Are you sure its actually a EWS delete chip? Not just some performance chip? ANyone else (thats gone this way) care to comment?

Ok so it does affect the fuel pump. I am able to crank as well...

I'm thinking you are correct, my chip is just a performance chip and does nothing to delete EWS. I don't know what is really in there, it was there when i bought it. The guy probably thought "oh it's a red label 413! it'll work!" (he never had it in a running car or anything)

Once I have enough money my first plan of action is to get a new chip that for sure has the EWS delete.

Ye, sounds right. To make sure, check your spark. If you dont have that either, you will know for sure.
Its "relatively" easy to get around a disabled fuel pump. Spark is alot harder.
But by far your easiest (and probably cheapest) option is to get the right chip. But I dont know much about them so check with others...
