I have been IDing tables for a new project and my head is spinning. This is why I have a techno, dammit.

Did you ever try to get any data out of the ECU via the data signals? We ended up trying it and it was so slow that it was totally useless.

Yup, I've been using TunerPro RT with an Emulator for years on DSMs, Nissans, and a few others. I've been working on the definitions and have gotten a lot of info from the Bimmerforums thread. Once I have the car on the dyno, I'll have a better idea of how good my research has been. I really need to get the new Ostrich that has address tracing!

I never even bothered with logging through the ECU. As you said, the data stream is just not robust enough to do any sort of useful logging of multiple channels. I've got my MXL hooked up to many of the I/O lines to see what's happening.

We have two of the new ostriches... They have no trace functionality out of the box, you need to write a custom program to get anywhere with that.

It is very cool to be able to tune a car with bluetooth though.

And of course progress continues on OBDII, the final frontier...

Well we finally got her on the dyno tonight. The past few weeks have been crazy and I just haven't been motivated to stay on the dyno after being on there all day long. Soooo, when I first fired the engine up cylinders # 5 and 6 were low on compression. I had hoped there was a stuck piston ring that was keeping them from sealing, as the engine had been sitting for 2+ years. Long story short #6 has 0 PSI and #5 is sitting around 40-50 PSI. #6 won't even ignite the inlet charge. I think the power is pretty healthy considering! 142.2 wheel HP lol.

Stock E36 M3s make about 185 wheel HP on our dyno. The power of this engine does indeed suck, but it gives me hope to beat the shit out of her on the dyno. So very close to success. If anyone has a cheap M50/M52/S50 block they'd like to sell, preferrably in the NE, let me know!

Yes it did and they a Nissan SR20. I work for Alex, the owner of DENT Sport Garage and got the car as a stripped down roller from him almost 2 years ago. It now has a proper BMW engine :D

I pulled the engine and pulled out #5 and #6....#6 was completely missing about an inch of first and 2nd ring land and the rings. #5 had a 1 inch broken ring land top and 2nd but the piece was still in there. I honed the cylinders (no damage at all) and put in some used pistons. Awaiting gaskets to make another attempt on the dyno.
