    Getrag 250 - Thoughts?

Looks like i'm gonna be tackling my 2nd 24v swap this summer and im just wondering what transmission I wanna go with. It'll most likely be paired up with a s52 or 2.8L m52 at the least. I really want to know though can the 250 take the power of a s52 say with bolt-ons? (3.5maf, #24 Injectors etc). I know of horror stories of syncro's failing and gears grenading but then i see guys with boosted e36s using that transmission with no problems! So i'm not too sure.

ZF = too much monies and bitch to find the driveshaft
G260 = mine is highh mileage and whines like its straight cut when its cold

So, do you think its a good choice to use the G250 with the mentioned engines? yes or no and why.

    TIA,

    Devon.V

I thought a driveshaft to fit the ZF was easy to find? I heard you can use the 96-99 M3/328i or even the E30 M3. Correct me if I'm wrong...

i'm running the 250 with my s52 and haven't had any problems with it, and i know lots of other guys are.
that said, zf trannys are getting cheaper and the e30m3 driveshaft is pretty easy to find on s14.net. you should be able to get both for around $600, which isn't too bad.

A 250 will work fine if you're not hard on the driveline. I know of people that have used them behind blown 3.0's with 5+ trackdays a year....and others who have shucked gears (2nd mainly) with stock 3.0L's on street driven cars--all depends on how you drive it. Like Levinson says, people kill drivetrains; not horsepower!

                  Sickk.....thats good to know.

The car is street driven and will be schooled/tracked/auto-x'd sometimes but i won't be beating the living snot out of it. So the G250 it is!

                  Thanks again guys!

                        E30 or E36?

The 250's output flange uses a larger diameter bolt than the E30 325i's driveshaft flange.

Sorry to bring this back up...but would the Getrag 250 work with a E30 M42 driveshaft?

The Getrag 240 looks almost identical in size compared to the 250.
