Fire wall insulation. must it go?

Ive read a few articles about stripping the insulation/deadening from the heater core/fire wall area. Is it absolutely necessary for everything to fit right or is it for wiring and such?

I took the insulation off the heater core cover thing. What a pain in the ass. Totally not worth the time
