    M50 ICV mounting bracket

Hey...I am wanting to go with an M50 ICV set up on my M52B28 with M50 intake manifold...however I'm a little unsure of how the ICV actually mounts up.

This pic's a handy start (stolen from e30m50.com)

Presumably there's a bracket that the ICV is hiding in that pic? Looking at good ol' realoem it shows the "BRACKET IDLE ADJUSTER" (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...5&hl=84)...but to me is looks like it's only the rubber grommet into which the ICV slides. Is there a metal bracket or something? Does anyone know where to find it on realoem?

Thanks in advance for the help!

So I guess it would be this thing that the ICV attaches to (thanks Project Orca CD):

Now I just need to figure out the part number. Number 5 perhaps? Any one know for sure? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...94&hg=12&fg=31

12 52 1 724 264 is the Etk part number, parts dept will update from this number if it is not correct.

      Hope this helps.

Cheers man! I got busy with it...it needed some trimming for the M52 plumbing at the right hand end, and trimming of the left hand end for my oil lines, but it will work nicely:

It's nice to have this one licked. The M50 plumbing under the intake manifold is so much simpler than the M52 stuff.

Drew-I take it you didn't want to go with the s50 coolant spider hose? Are you keeping the obdII throttle body then?

I'm not exactly sure what the S50 spider hose is...link to realoem? I have a big bore M50 throttle body going on.

It's the s50 coolant hose that would replace the metal one you have in there.

Gotcha...I haven't seen that set up in the flesh, but I'm not sure it'd work with the M52, as there's not a barb fitting on the M52 for a hose to attach to the engine. Instead, the M52 solid pipe inserts into a female o-ring fitting in the block...I could be wrong though.

Note the o-rings instead of a hose clamp.

I've also blanked off the throttle body coolant circuit.

I though most people added the coolant fitting and then used that s50 spider hose.

I guess in the end it really doesn't matter, as long as you find a way to get that coolant back into the engine right?

What else do you need to do to finish your swap?

I'm just getting started on mine. Started taking the engine apart for a rebuild/refresh.

It's actually easier to use the OBDII metal pipe since you only have to deal with a short length of rubber tube.

Ha...well there you go...never even knew about the TMS adapter. But yeah, I think it's much of a muchness. I had the metal pipe, so I went with it.

The swap is nearly at the point where it's all electrical left to do...and the only delaying factor there is that I'm going to run megasquirt, and finding the time of course.

I'd love to have started with a rebuilt motor...but if I were going there I'd want to be stroking and porting etc etc...I can't help myself but do the whole "well, while it's apart I may as well..."

Yeah makes sense...was nice and easy to fit everything up, and blank off the throttle body circuit.

Well, I'm keeping the engine rebuild pretty much stock. I can't afford to go all out, got too many other hobbies to pay for! Besides, this is going to be a DD in California, so doing major mods would most likely make me fail the smog check. I'll probably end up using the metal pipe too. I also agree that it's easier to deal with that the s50 spider hose.

Awesome! Keep us up on your progress! Seeing guys continue and get the swaps running makes it easier to keep going.

Ah yeah, CA has some pretty strict emissions laws from what I hear. Where I live in Australia, I have to get the conversion approved...and emissions-wise all that means is that my car has equal or better the emissions level that a 1988 325i produced when first built...shouldn't be too hard. After that, I can pretty much do what I want...it's VERY rare to get emissions checks...generally you'll only get checked if you're hanging out in a car park with 50 imports cutting drifts and dropping burnouts (i.e. being an attention whore...the cops crack down on that stuff pretty hard).

Yeah the oil lines go to a remote oil filter and the E30 oil cooler. If you're interested, I've got a detailed write up of my swap here: http://forums.eurocca.net/showthread.php?t=12214

                              take my advice and don't
i made a p&p harness for MS2Extra and dicked around with the whole setup for a while (even added vanos functionality) and while i got it to work as designed, the batch fuel injection was a dealbreaker - you just cannot tune it good with limitations of batch injection.
(thats why myself and a few friends are working on our own diy ECU with sequential injection)
I also hear that JimC just released a motronic editor for these motors.
