Let me get this straight (EWS question)

Ok so i am planning on buying a whole 1995 m3 parts car. It ewas wrecked on the passenger Rear side.

I have read thru the whole DOHC swap thread many times.

It has a 413 Silver Label and it wont even crank.

I am thinking the EWS is the problem it is a 10/95 car so it has the EWSII system in it.

I went to look at it today and we tried everything to get it to crank and take the compression except put a constant 12v to the starter.

Without buying an EWS delete chip i can take apart a red 413 and take the chip out of that and put it in the silver and cut the EWS wire (green wire coming out of pin #66 or at the Diagnostic pin #7)

I just want to make sure of this before i try it.

I read it on Bimmerforums and apparently that is what you can do (other then buy the ews chip)

    Any help is appreciated

I am sure i am going to be told to just buy the ews delete chip, but i have a red 413 available on hand and would like to try this. Plus after the conforti stuff i MIGHT buy with it, i will get the EWS delete chip after.

    Thanks,

So, you have the red label 413 DME on hand? Just use that.

I thought that with ews II, it needes the silver box, since the vins had to match?

The EWS disables the Starter, therefore it shouldnt crank...

Or do i have it backwards?

Also it isnt even out of the M3 yet... and it is still connnected.

Is there some sort of inertia switch or something that i should check?

I have 413 Silver, before I bought my chip it would crank just fine. Just no fuel or spark. I agree, check your wiring.

I had the exact same car and the same problem, wouldn't even crank. I had to jump 2 wires going into the EWS box for it to crank. I can find out for you later but that information is out there, the starter interlock circuit you need to go around. There's only like 4 wires going to the box so it's not hard.

So listen...to get my car to crank I had to jump 2 wires behind the ews box.

To get the car to run I needed a 506 (early 95 m3 dme), but a 413 red works as well (have run it on both). AND the EWS Box needs to be disconnected. This screwed me over, didn't know this. I rear about snipping that green wire also so I snipped it, and the motor ran, but I'd do that last as the EWS box kept it from getting fuel and spark even with that wire snipped.

So order of attack...unplug ews box. Jump 2 wires behind it, one comes from the ignition switch one goes to starter. If you can't figure this out I'll go to where car is and check for you, PM me. Install non ews dme.

See if it cranks/gets fuel and spark/runs. if not try snipping the green wire everyone talks about.

                Good luck!

Thanks Mossman i will try that!

The only problem ATM is the car is 300Miles away so i need to ask the guy who has it to try that.

I am going to pick it um next weekend.

the 2 wires you/he has to jump are the 2 biggest going into the EWS box. Black with yellow stripe and green with black stripe i believe. They're 1st and 3rd ones over from the connector and obviously the thickest 2 wires.
