    S52 w/525i harness DME holder

My 525i harness is too short to allow me to put the DME into the cabin without re-doing the harness attachment points under the intake. So in the spirit of invention I decided to make my own 'box' to house it on the extra battery tray area near the main battery cable connector.

I found that the E34 with the M50 as well as the 735 (not sure what year) in my local U Pull It yard have 'boxes' made up of 3 layers that hold the DME and the trans computer, as well as the relays. It sits behind the right strut tower.

I got the box home and realized it was too big to fit behind the tower on the E30, so I proceeded to cut it up to make it fit.

I first took off the bottom plastic part (it screws to the middle aluminum section), and cut the side off the middle section to allow it to fit between the tower and the battery cable.

After doing this I realized I should have cut the back side, not the front, but I could still make it work. I screwed the aluminum middle piece to some M42 DME brackets and attached them to the tray area. I then took the cover and cut it up to fit over the remaining part of the box, screwing it together so give some weather protection.

I was able to fit the DME inside as well as the 3 relays on a built in holder.

It looks like a covered battery box and cleaned up the wiring for the relays as well as the DME. Although it's not waterproof, it will provide adequate protection here in Phoenix.

I'd post a pic but I don't know how. If anyone wants a pic I can send one to your email.
