10,001, what do I win Bob?

Budget 4-5k. Can you do a non-S50 swap for less? Most likely, but 4-5k is a good figure in your head. Start lower, and you will go over it. Frankly, search, lurk more. Read this forum for weeks, read the wiki, see what other people have done.

Are you looking at a nice, lower miles vanos motor or some piece of shit non-vanos 92 with 190k pulled out of a wrecked car? Is it an e34 motor with the proper oilpan or do you need to get that and the assorted hardware? Do you have the proper DME, or do you need a chip? You sticking with the 260, or are you going with the e36 tranny? You gonna change the rear end? You gonna pay someone 200 bucks to buy a pre-wired C101, or do you want to spend 2 weeks wiring and another 3 weeks on the forums asking "HAY GUYS MY CAR WON'T START"? You looking to make this car emissions legal? Factor in the cost for a proper cat & center section. You wanna keep AC, factor that in. Where are you getting your parts? Are you buying new stuff, online, dealer, are you going to a pick & pull or getting sweetheart deals from a wrecker?

        :giggle:

The best way to do the swap for a first-timer is to pull an engine from a functioning car, as complete as possible. That way you're not wondering how the accessories bolt up, or what wire on the harness goes where, etc.

Lol, it's fun figuring that stuff out though haha. I've been searching on google and ebay for various engine shots for just that :)

I'm not quite sure replying to multiple 2 month old posts is going to help your cause.
