I made up a box to hold the DME in the extra battery space just behind the passenger strut tower. Picture was posted awhile back...

I'm using an E34 harness and am having trouble getting it to start. My pinout is a bit different than yours is. I have the dynamic and static oil level pins switched, and I think I've got it right per the ETM. I'll know as soon as I fire it up though. Also, I used C101 pin 6 on the X20 pin 10 to make the E34 ECU think its in park as I pulled my harness from an automatic. Now, I have C101 pin 11 connected to the X20 pin 19 for a service interval reset and have C101 pin 16 connected to pin 17.

The first time I tried to start, I had C101 pin 20 wired to X20 pin 3 and it fried the connector. I put a new connector on and am not going to try the 20/3 combination without an inline fuse.

My current pinout (still not running...) is:
            1 -- 25
*2 -- 2 Grounds when oil level is full
            3

            4 -- 12
5 -- 23 Grounds when pressure is low
            *6 -- 10 Using O2 power to send park/neutral signal
            7 -- 21 From ignition switch in start/run
            8
            -- 24 Tach/Fuel economy gauge
            9
            -- 20
            10
-- 1 Grounds when oil level is low
            *11
            -- 19 Service indicator reset
            12
            -- 8 Has diode installed
            13
            -- 13 Powers fuel pump
            14
            -- 14 Speed output
            15
            -- 15 Powers unloader relays
            *16 -- 17
            17
            18 -- 18 Powered in start position
            19

            *20 Unable to find reference

Is your car running with the pinout listed above in your initial email? BTW, I'm using a green label 405 with a D'Sylva EAT chip.

I've been telling myself that 'This weekend it will run' now for 3 weeks. My next step is to check the crank sensor gap again. I'm getting 568 ohms across the sensor, which sounds good from other threads. Still, the engine sounds like it would if it had a distributer and it was installed 180 out of time.

Thank Addisimo. This has been running my car for about 2 years with non-vanos e34 harness and 1991 e30.

I'll give this a shot today. Are there typo's in this though? I see pin X20 pin 18 is moved to E30 pin 17. All of the diagrams I see, and is evidenced on my car as well, show the C101 pin 17 empty. Right now, I have E30 pin 16 connected to X20 pin 17. I'll move that to pin 19 and give it a shot.

I also have the oil level sensor pins different, but don't think that would effect starting. I show E34 pins 1 and 2 to connect the oil level sensor and thought pin 1 was dynamic and 2 static.

My system consists of an early 91 NV M50 (build 10/90) with a green label 405 ECU (EAT Chip) and 88 325is chassis harness.

I think the VR senors ARE different between nv and vanos motors. Are you using a vanos crank pos sensor? I think the cranks wheel is different too. I know the trigger angles are different.

Does anyone know the proper resistance for the cam position sensor? I did not find anything in Bentley's. The original reads something in the area of 1240 ohms across pins 1 and 2. The one I pulled from a junk yard yesterday ($5) reads about 1030 ohms. Is this supposed to be the same as the CPS, at 540 ohms?

I plan on checking the one in my E34 tomorrow to see what that one reads.
