Options when it comes to M52 strokers

I hate to do this since I have already started an M50 2.5 to 3.0L thread, but I ended up with an M52 and would like to confirm available options.

Here is what I found out so far (thanks google):

    source http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/3-s...rts-58020.html
"3.0l stroker on the m52 uses an s50 crank, rods, and pistons.

a good alternative is the 2.9l stroker which uses m52 crank, m50/s50(m52 are okay but m50 are "beefier") rods, and s50 +2 overbored diameter pistons. "

    source http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum.../t-477792.html

    330i pistons/crank.

Basically I would like to confirm what works and what doesn't. What can I do if I keep the m52 crank and go with other bmw rods or pistons for example.

    Thank you!

I'd say keep the bottom end stock and put some S52 cams up top. it will make very good power.

You have no stroker options that don't involve a new crank.

Forget using "beefier" components. Use the newest, lightest stuff you can find.

Have you guys heard of Terry Tinney? I am considering taking the engine to him for work :)

            +1.

Ive toyed with the idea of M50 combos, and the common denomonator is the price about equals that of an s50/2.

Because I already have an m52, and I doubt that an s50/52 would be cheaper if the same amount of labor / parts are done on both.

-I like the idea of using a m54b30 rotating set... 3.0 l w/o having to bore anything, new, light and very advanced coatings, and they will drop right into any m50/m52 block with a 84mm bore.

But if you have it all apart, why not bore it and atleast put the crossmesh in while you're doin the work on the motor.
But I agree would be awesome setup w/ custom pistons...

nah, boreing doesn't add as much as power as you think.

and I bet most BMW less than 30 years old still have "crossmech" walls

you can find a s50 or s52 for less than 2.you'll spend more than that when its all said and done with machine work or whatever.Nickle and dime stuff really adds up

I know that, but you missed my point. Start with a 2k s50/s52 and take it all apart and have it all cleaned up etc and in the end it will cost you more vs. the same job with m50/m52 as you have a little bit of headstart offset by the price difference of the m52 vs s50/s52...

I would rather have a 100% working and fresh m52 for the price of an 'unknown' condition s50/s52 is what i am trying to say i guess.

                        imho

Yea, I think I spent about 5-6k on my engine build.

is that 3.0 starting from an m50 block or m52 block? or are they same? whats it take to get an m52 block to s52 spec?
