I accidentally installed the E30 shift carrier from my M20 trans (getrag 240?) and couldn't get it off without pulling the trans due to the delrin bushing and tight fitting bitch clip.
With the stock shift linkage and the Z3 shifter, the lever would hit the front edge of the hole in the tunnel, and I had to cut a larger hole.
Not liking that approach, I decided to look at shortening the shift rod to put the lever back towards the middle of the hole.
So I cut the linkage by 1 inch and welded it back together. Perfect fit. Not exactly in the middle of the hole but close enough that the tunnel shift boot fits fine.
