    OBDII starting issues

This engine is from my previous car (rip) and it worked fine. same year, same model. same wiring. This car started up the first time and started a couple more times after too.

Recently i can't get the car to start. I've narrowed it down to an EWS problem since everything else works. I checked the EWSII wiring and its correct, good contacts. I GET NO FUEL & NO SPARK...omg here we go.

The Fuel pump relay kiks when i turn the key. 2 seconds later, it shuts off (confirmed with voltmeter). If i try to crank the car, the car will crank, make short VROOhhZzz and then nothing more.

The EWS module connects to pin 18 of the ECU, i'm monitoring that with my fluke and it seems to me like its a digital signal and there is communication going on between the two in the key's "RUN" position. The transponder module and ews are communicating perfectly and its picking up the inductance from the Chip key. a/c inductance if i am correct.

In any event, any comments, suggestions (do not suggest obdI although that is my contingency plan), concerns and solutions greatly appreciated.

I've been having the same symptoms you were saying,

Everything seemed good wiring wise, car would start for a fraction of a second. Then die.

I unplugged the maf and it starts everytime.

Was hoping for you that it was an easy fix.

        I tried.

hmmm i too don't know what is going on. I tried using a different ring antenna i had laying around and no change.

What is an EWS lockout? How can it be reset?

This is an EWS-II issue (I had the same problem on my Euro). Sometimes you can loose the synch between the key and the EWS module. I would expect your "no-start" issues to be the same with or without the EWS module connected, correct?

The dealer may be able to re-synch everything, but if that doesn't work out send me a PM.

yeah everything points to that. i'm going to rundown everything this week though. take out the IM and check everything (electrical @ starter, fuel delivery, fuel rail connections). i'm going to chage all the relays and fuses (from my old car). replace fuel pump (making wierd noises) and redo my in-car EWS wiring....not that its messy i just want to redo everything as it worked once.

I went to my dealer earlier this week with the ecu, ewsII module and the key on-hand and they did not want to do a damn thing for me since i couln't prove ownership of the donor car...lol its gonna take me longer to solve this problem than the whole build of the car from ground up suspension to 5-lug swap to s52 swap.

in any event thanks mike. check your pm.
