ebay header resonance/rattle?

I got my exhuast done. It is 2 2" pipes then to a Y then to a resonator and a super turbo. The sound of the exhuast is actually pretty good. Not loud at all. But I am getting a crazy resonance/rasp/rattle sound between 2500 - 3500 when I accel quickly. If I take it up slowly it sounds fine.

I thought maybe it was coming from the headers rubbing on the sub frame, so I massaged them up and out of the way a little bit. (Already have spacers)

Is anyone else getting this resonance/rasp/rattle/vibration?

The guy at the exhaust through it sounded like the turbulence of the exhaust going through the header.

You shouldnt be getting that at all. Must be some bad welds if so. You know its coming from the headers and not further down?

Whats the smallest point of your full system? 2.5" single at the Y?

i got the same thing. i think mine is too close to the engine mount arms.

It goes to 2.25" for a little bit after the Y

If you stand right over the headers it is loudest

I just checked and it is not touching the mounting arm.

i have the same problem but mine is just barly touching it.

check it under load, it will move around. clearing your cab? resting on any of the heat shield material going into the tunnel?

It isn't even close to the CAB. I thought it might have been touching some of the heat shielding so I bent it back. I have at least 1/2" clearance now.

I tried to get a recording with my camera but it would not pick up the sound.

Should I disconnect the muffler for the flange and see if it still makes the sound?

The exhaust at the back sounds good. But this noise does not.

It really sounds like metal vibrating...but not sure where.

another update....thought maybe it is was a pully or an idler, pulled both belts, no luck.

Went over all the manifold nuts to make sure they are tight, they were a little loose (1/8 turn) but still the same noise. One question...I ordered the wrong nuts and got the ones with the little washer that moves (the ones for the intake manifold) on accident for the exhuast. I have the correct copper nuts on order and they will be here Friday. Could those be making the sound? I do see how when they are so tight.

It only happens when I really punch the throttle. It is coming from the area of the header.

I jacked it up and unbolted after the 2 to one pipe and reved in, it was loud as F but the sound was still there. Looking over where it goes from 2 to 1 there are 2 pin holes in the weld, could that cause it?

Any suggestions where to go from here?

i would say its possible... exhaust can act funny around leaks, especially up front. smear the holes with jb weld and see if it helps. the jbweld will most likely fall off but last long enough for the test.

Dont use JB weld on exhaust. There is actually high temp exhaust putty that they sell for that if you wanna half ass it like so.

I fixed the issue months ago... I replaced the exhuast I had with a stock obdII e36 m3 setup.

Hi Jake. I saw this thread and couldn't help but post.

I'm the one that bought his exhaust minus the Y/mid section along with ebay headers (not his though) Still not in yet. I hope I don't have issues...unless it sounds like this:
