    Help me ID intake component

Here's the intake on my S50 (swapped by PO)

Q1: What is the gizmo that the air cleaner clamps onto with the 2 small hoses going to it? Once I know what this thing is, then I can use the search function, as so often advised, for more info.

    Q2: Why doesn't e30pq need one?

It is a thermostat for the throttle body heater. So in cold heater it opens up and coolant can flow through the throttle body plate. Most people just eliminate the thermostat and run the lines to the plate or eliminate the heater all together.

Depends where you live and if you will drive it in the cold.

Hmmm, I really like the way they did that in the 1st picture. I'm using my friends old TB boot and he just made a hole in the boot and shoved it in there lol.
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

My car runs great without it.

In my opinion, what these swap cars need is oil cooling. Especially if you track or autocross the cars. That's the next thing I would like to add to my motor.

What air filter are you running? The $25 filter I picked up to get the car home after purchase is slightly too small to fit over the MAF & I have to use a short piece of tubing in between to get it to fit.
