    Cruise Control Cable

I have the answers for where to mount the cruise control module and how to mount threaded end of the cable to make it work with the S50. My question is how do you mount the cable to the rubber grommet on the throttle body or the fixed point of the cable. My M20 cable has a square(ish) plastic grommet. I've looked at alot of M20s in the junkyard and they all have the same connection. Is there another M20 cable that will work or can the e36 cable be retro-fitted to the e30 cruise module. Thanks in advance for your input.

The e36 cable can be connected to the m20 actuator. If you look at the actuator there are two little tabs, push those in and pull the cable out slowly, then you will see of the cable connects to the actuator. It is a little rubber "cable". Then just do the reverse to put the new cable on from the e36.

Wow really...that's handy to know! Any particular E36 cable?

I used one from a m42... I swapped cruise into my e30 318is and then when I put the m50 in the same cable worked. It is really close to the iX booster but it does work.

I would think the e36 would be best, it might even be the same part though.

So I take it your actuator is like these ones:

Mine's different....I have no idea how to change the bowden cable on mine...I'll have to post a pic...but it certainly doesn't have the tabs like those above...so i doubt the E36 cable would work :(

no mine doesn't look like that....

I used a m42 cable from a e36 m42 car so maybe that is what is needed.

It looks like this, the tabs are inside that open "box" area

Looks like the bowden cable from an early E36 325 is a perfect fit for my actuator!

                Numbers on my E30 actuator:

The two cables side by side (the E36 one is the longer one):

The identical ends of the bowden cables:

So the part number for the E36 cable is 65711387004, and about $40 brand new from BMA. Have taken the car for a quick spin and it all works nicely. OEM solution FTW!!!!

No probs...finding this link was a big help:

I could do some part number guggling from there to find the right cable.

I am kind of noob. So from this thread I am understanding that to get cruise control to work on my E30 M50 is to get an E36 Bowden cable from it's cruise control system or buy it new and install that into the cruise control unit already in my E30? There is no need for hybriding the cables together?

+1, E36 cruise cable(P# 65711387004), mounted into E30 servo works? what about complete E36 cable and servo?

Basically, if your E30 has a cruise control actuator with a cable that has an end like the ones pictured below, you should be able to use E36 part number 65711387004 straight up with your M50.

As for the complete E36 cable and servo, I have no idea...but my guess would be no.

                            S50 E30 Throttle Cable Question

Sorry to ask in a cruise control thread about the throttle cable but there seems to be some good knowledge and nice pictures here.

Can someone confirm which part number I need to order if I need a new throttle cable? I have searched and it seems that folks recommend the E34 cable but I don't know if that is for a 525 or ??? I have an S50 E30. If I should get an E36 cable - should it be for the M3?

                            Thanks from a Noobie.

I have both cables and they appear to be identical.
I used the E34 cable 35411160609 but have not run the car yet.
I am unhappy with the limited slack I have at closed throttle( Near as dammit taut) with this cable. I have adjusted it to the max.
I'm concerned that I'll have "throttle tugging" when traveling over bumps. I'll probably shave the rubber stop/locating grommet for the adjuster at the throttle body to gain just a titch more slack.

Others have used the E36 cable 35411161698 which I may try as an alternative if I get no joy out of the E34 cable. It looks the same length though.
