pulse generator?

I have a getrag 260 in my 87 E30 with a swapped S50 do the two magnetic "pulse generators" need to be hooked to anything? I believe they were a reference for the M20 ignition system and maybe some type of speedo/tach signal source? There are two of them in the trans housing. I attached a pic from Realoem.

They were in fact a crank trigger for an ETA motor.

With the whole 24 valve thing going on, you don't need them.
