    e30 m52b28

    Hi, last week I made a swap in my e30 - m52b28 OBD2 Siemens MS41
6 days of hard work, pain, hunger

I`m driving the car and everything is perfect except DME errors

    I have 3 errors
    1. Exhaust flap solenoid
    2. Lambda control /front lambda sensor is dead :D /
    3. And vehicle speed sensor
Now when we delete this errors the car goes to with no problem to 6500
but after some driving when the engine reach 5000-5500 it stops there in a "fuel cut" style. And when you try again again and again even in idle it is the same 5000-5500 limit.
We delete again these errors - and the car is fine again for some time

So I search for answers and find that the vehicle speed sensor error could be the problem for this so called "limp mode"

I checked the wiring and everything between x20 and c101 is fine - by the books. I didn't check the instrument cluster yet

So I need help is this error is my problem
I`m planing to test-change the instrument cluster with another one /i hope that this will be fine and the error disappear and the limp mode is gone for good/

    Hi, welcome to r3v :) Good 1st post .

I can't help you with your questions, as I am in the middle of m52 swap myself and it's obd1 so...

I imagine since the e30 chassis does not have this flap solenoid, you need to figure out how to disable that function or figure out what you need to wire to the ecu/harness to fool it that you have the flap ;)

Good luck though, and post some pictures of your car/swap when you get a chance.

Wow very interesting post for me,

I have the same problem although I have no way to check the codes as of now , but exactly the same symptom.

      Fuel cut at 5300~

      I am also running OBD2.
I have a bad maf though, so I figured it was that. And also, I have a sketchy FPR.

Just suggestions, because I have yet to replace these items on my car as I am away form home ( school ).

EDIT: Wouldnt a bad O2 sensor cause limp mode?

So we change the O2 sensor - and delete the errors again
        And go for a test
        1st - 6500
        2nd - 6500
3rd - goes to 6000 and then again fuel cut again

we plug the tester and errors for the exhaust flaps and the vehicle spped sensor are there

after this in any gear or standing when knockdown the pedal the car is limited to 5500 - if we delete the errors and drive the car easy we no problem /I stop and push it to 6500/but if I push it again sometimes in 3rd or 4th the car goes to this restriction

We tried with 2 another instrument clusters but no success

What is the production date of your E30?

I have a feeling the E30 is not passing the vehicle speed information to the DME and that is the reason for the fuel cut.

Can you tell us how the x20 to C101 is wired?

found some info and I think that si my problem with dme

              but check this out
We connected pin 14 /x20/ to pin 14/c101/ it is black/white wire - most swap wiring schemes are for Bosch DME and this black/white wire is going to pin 42 /bosch/ according this table, but mine is Siemens DME and the pin for the vehicle speed sensor is 15 /brown red/

I found pdf about m52 engine management DME 41.0

pin 15 is for ABS/ASC signal but is marked as OUTPUT not input
strange, because we could`t find any other pin for input the speed sensor

On the MS41.0, the BMW ETM shows X6000 pin 15 is an output, not input. However, the MS41.1 (USA) is shows X6000 pin 15 is an input. Functionally the MS41.1 and 41.0 are nearly identical.

It makes no sense that the DME would send information to the ABS/ASC computer. The other way around would make sense. In the following diagram you can see that at X20 pin 9 on the MS41.0, the ABS/ASC to DME signal can be intercepted.

Not knowing the nature of the signal, my guess would be connecting C101 pin 14 to X20 pin 9 (MS41.0) is the solution. Being able to characterize the electrical signals would be great prior to hooking up wires willy-nilly, but this makes the most sense to me.

Ah, standing in an empty engine bay is something everyone enjoys!

So you hooked it up to X20 pin 9 or directly to DME pin 15?

No DME pin 15 is already on x20 connector on pin 9 !
Only connected pin 9 /x20 brown-red/ to pin 14 /c101 black-white/...and pedal to the metal

I decided to use the gearbox, drive shaft from the same car e36 328
When I put everything the m20 aluminum shifting arm was too long and we compare the m20 arm with the e36 328 arm
so the 328 shifting arm is with right length for the e36 gearbox

                          Ah, great!

I was wondering if you connected pin 14 C101 directly to the DME pin 15, or at the x20 pin 9. Same signal, different location. ;)

Thanks for posting your resolution to the problem.
