318 vs 325 for an s50 swap

Is it true that no 318i models came with check panels from the factory? If so, that means the PO installed mine and I never asked. My last E30 was a 325i, so I just assumed that all of them had check panels..

also true...I was able to use the 318is axles with my e30 m3 5-lug swap. I've also used diffs from mcoupe and e28 by swapping output flanges...takes about 1 minute to do that.Comment

late 318 has less sound deading tar, none in the trunk. So it is a little lighter. Also no power sunroof, lighter. No check panel lights to look at after the swap.
Also no Cruise...but it is easy to add. Less of a OBC (easy to add, if you care about it)
The wiring is a little different for the 318. not a big deal tho. You can also use the 318 rad with the m50 for a cleaner engine bay.
I have a m50 swapped 318iS and am very happy with it.Richard

my 91 318is has a hand cranked sunroof, power windows, power mirrors, no trunk tar, open diff, 5 speed (not optional) coupe, and one big plus to starting with a 318is is the tranny mount.... i know for a s5x swap you need to make a new mount... not in the 318is!Comment
