    Finally a little progress

My S52 has been sitting in pieces for almost a year so I decided now would be a good time to finish the rebuild.I finished work on the bottom end. New rings,Main bearings, rod bearings etc..In the next 2 weeks I am going to finish the top end and should have the engine complete. I would like to have the engine in before November.

Yikes. Did the engine turn over easily in this state? What led you to take the head off?

You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Machine shop just called and they resurfaced the cylinder head. They took 8,000 of an inch off. Can I still use the stock head gasket 1.74mm?? I cant wait to get the head on and the cams timed. What is the best place to rent the cam tools ??

Should be able to, my head just got machined 4 thousandths, but that was for a second time... I just used a stock head gasket though.

I believe there 12 thousandths is the limit a head can be warped and cut according to the spec, so they do make a .012 thicker head gasket. .008 is closer to .012 than stock, but I have a feeling you'll be alright with the stock one.

Meh - that is nothing. If you spit on your finger and ran it up and down the boar, the rust would come off to show the original cross hatches from the factory. Looks way worse than it is - not to say that a motor sitting untouched doesn't get ruined.

I got the head on cams and VANOS installed. I just need to go back and double check everything is correct and the engine should be done. I am not going to meet my schedule going out of the country for work...
