Power steering pumps...S5x engines vs M5x engines?

Can anyone tell me why the ps pumps for the S5x engines have a different part number to the M5x engines? Is there something ///M-tastic about the S5x series pumps?

Could be a different pulley. I don't know though.

If you could get pics...that'd be cool...if you could also take a look at the plate on the pumps with the part numbers on it, it may say what pressure the pumps are...I'm thinking that might be the difference, seeing as the cars with S5x engines probably all had quicker ratio racks, and in turn possibly higher pressure pumps.

If you'd asked me several months ago about the carbon bits, I'd probably have said yes...but I ended up getting brand new OEM items.

There are a couple of different PS pumps for M50's and they use different mounting brackets. If memory serves, the pulleys are the same.

Reason being, I am planning on swapping in a M50 with a crap steering pump with anticipation of one day putting in an s52. So would I be able to a s52 pump and corresponding bracket onto a M50?

my s52 is using a p/s pump from an 94 525i.

M52s are the only different ones, as far as I know.
