    Casting number questions?

Can anyone verify if these numbers conclude that this motor is a s50b30 us spec?

And if anyone has acces to running the vin please do so? I know based on the VIN it comes from a 1995 M3 Auto, but I'd like to know the cars history and mileage given at a certain year to determine this motors mileage. P/O said it had 62k miles.

    Thanks for the help!

Based on the VIN, the motor is out of an M-car (third letter is "S") and a 1995 model

Funny that the block is stamped as an 84mm bore.

Is that what the 84 stands for?

Yes, but they all have that.

The head has been machined, so there's no telling what's actually in there.

How do you know the head has been machined?

Actually, the thing inside the freeze plug just under the VIN tag on the head is a machine shop warranty tag. It's held on with wax that melts (making it fall off) if the motor overheats.

Head looks super clean and notice the scratch around the head vin ? Possibly was removed to put back on afterwards?

Yep, an engine i bought from a recycler had that same type of stamp on it. Doesn't mean it was rebuild (it didn't in my case), just they put that on there for their own good

I think when it comes to buying an engine, it's worth it to buy the 1 month of carfax. I am glad I did.....

The VIN thing is a sticker, I dont see it coming off and going back on.

I have never seen a recycler put one of the tags on a motor, but I'm sure it happens. Most of the time, it will have the machine shop's name on it also.

The motor is from harouts (however you spell it)... here in SFV.
