E30: S3.42 LSD??? Does this really exist?

So, I pulled a LSD differential from an e30 today at the junkyard. When I looked at the tag I saw this...




Anyone care to chime in? Hopefully its a 3.42 lsd... Hot damn. just the thought.

Nope.

That's a 2.93.

And you know that how? I checked the ratio and its over 3:1 ratio which eliminates 2.93.

41/14 = 2.92857

That makes some sense, but it doesn't. Because shouldn't it be, 4342/1441 = 3.01. Which would theoretically make my guess logically correct. I marked the output of the half shafts, and marked the input shaft. One complete turn for the input and the outputs rotated over 3 times and 1/8 - 1/6.

God damnit. Matt you are the man. Guess that tag is correct. My stupid ass didn't look at the input/output shafts correctly. It wasn't slightly pass 3 it was slightly before 3 turns. Meaning it is a 2.93 lsd. God I'm stupid. My apologies. I guess being at the junkyard for 5 hours straight really drained me and only till I've rested it became more clearer. Ha. Oh well. This thread is useless. Mods delete this yea? lol.

It's the number of teeth on the ring gear divided by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.
