    525 with removable bell housing???

I have a 265 CR (dogleg) gearbox that i'd like to use on my S50B30.

    I just read this today:

This transmission will work with an M30 or S14 as it sits. The bell-housing is removeable, so with the right bell-housing it can be used with an M20 or M/S5x as well.

I had originally intended to use this transmission behind my S52. I decided against that because the S52 has a wide enough powerband that I dont need the close gearing.
so what older 5 series used a m20 type motor, yet had a large 265 style tranny?

The removable bellhousing that mates the 265 AND an M20 is from the earliest production dates of the E28 528e. It may have only been one year.

Because he already has a dogleg 265. It has a shift pattern that you can't get in any other M/S5x compatible transmission, i.e. 2nd is across from 3rd.

            That quote looks familiar..

I think all of the E28 528e's between 9/81 and 8/83 used the 265 with the M20 bellhousing.

The dogleg behind a Euro motor would be excellent. They rev nicely. I just couldnt justify putting a close-ratio transmission behind the US S52 because it has power all over the rev range.

that, and i've always wanted to have a dogleg gearbox :)

any chance you have one of these bellhousings?

Dogleg gearbox's are excellent. I regret selling that one so cheap. I still have a 245 dogleg, but I'd be afraid to put that behind an S50/2 motor..

I might have one at work. I think I remember checking and we did not, but I will look again. I'll be back in on Monday and I'll let you know if I find one.

I want to run the M20 for another year and put the S50 in the E30 next winter.

in the mean time i'd love to run a 245 dogleg behind the M20.

I'll buy that and the bellhousing :)!!!

I replied to your PM on S14 by the way (sorry so late...).

If you really want the 245 for the M20 I might sell it to you if you will sell it back to me when you put the S50 in. I have an S52 now with an OD box, so the 245 is just sitting. I'll be building up another M20 car sometime next year, but for now I'm just shelving the M20 goodies.

I was actually thinking the same thing! ha!

I would love to drive the M20 behind a dogleg for a while. I was planning on putting the S50B30 in the car next winter, unless i blow up the M20 first (junk yard motor)

If you do want to sell it to me for a year, I would be more than honored!
