i haven't cracked the motor open yet as it wont go into the car until next winter or the M20 blows up.
butt.... i don't want a baffle for the euro S50 pan. i thought it would be pretty obvious that since this is an E30 site and i'm talking about a baffle for the pan used on E30 swaps, that i would not be using the pan that does not fit in the E30.
I've been around E30 M3's for 10 years now (damn time flies!) which have a huge problem with oil creeping up the side of the oil pan under long sweeping corners. Add sticky r-compounds and it just gets worst.
call me paranoid, but i spent alot of money on the euro S50 and i want to keep it safe.
what data do you have showing you don't have oil starvation? what type of track driving do you do?
E34 oil pan baffles?

Correct.
The E34 pan was not designed up run on a S50 B32, so some things may need to be changed to get it to work. While having a windage tray might be helpful, I am pretty sure getting something to work would require a custom solution. I am jsut reporting what my data tells me and oil pressure doesn't seem to be a problem...so I haven't ever tried to weld up even a baffle.Leave a comment:

Im pretty sure he is saying that his track only car has no baffle, and he has data showing that its not necessary.Leave a comment:

wouldn't running the car on the track be more of an argument to use one? the idea of the windage tray is to keep the oil in the sump from splashing up into the rotating mass of the crank shaft and robbing the engine of power. my north american s52 had a windage tray bolted to the bottom of the engine after the e36 oil pan was removed. since my e34 oil pan already had one riveted to the inside, i elected to remove the one from the s52 because there was no way that they were both going to fit in there together. also, there was a question as to whether the s52 windage tray would clear the e34 oil pan if i went to the trouble of unriviting the one that came in the pan.
with that said, i would say that the stock s52 windage tray is a much more effective design than the one rivited to the e34 pan.Leave a comment:

I had to remove the windage tray on the E34 pan that I used on my S50 B32. Mine is a trakc only car and have no issues with not running a baffle. Data doesn't show any large drops in oil pressure.Leave a comment:

I apologize for the semi ignorant post then. I believe the e34 windage tray was welded or riveted in, from the pics I've seen, so I don't believe there is an option to go in the pan. Did the euro s50 pan have a tray in it? I'm suprised it wouldn't include one, with the performance it has. Does it have provisions for one, like threaded bolt holes? Is the block the same as an US s50? Would one from it fit? I know Isera-Johnson (sp?) makes bmw crank scrapers, but Idk if they make them for your engine. Other than that, I'm sure the big name tuners (VAC, Bimmerworld, Turner, etc.) make or know someone that makes one for that euro engine. Or try a Uk based bmw forum? I hope this is a much more helpful post.Leave a comment:

I left my windage tray in on my S52. If I remember right, the E34 pan does have a crude sort of baffle, right? Not just a bare-walled pan. Still, I'd like to hear some options. That'd be great if VAC would make a setup for the E34.Leave a comment:

my e34 pan did have a windage tray in it. i ended up leaving it in, and pulling the tray off the bottom of the s50.Leave a comment:

I am interested in this too. I called VAC and they do not have one but are considering making one for this pan. I know that some e34 pans have a windage tray and some dont.Leave a comment:
