    bore size?

Well the block started as a 94' m50 ,e36 auto. Pistons were the MaxCel s52s 20 over. Factory fresh S52 crank ,135 rods . No I did not sonic the block. I had about 20k miles on the engine Don't know if piston failed or cyl failed . Crusing at 3500rpm for about an hour. I quessing the piston failed because the cyl wall was very complete when I plulled the head(see pics), what do you all think ?? Joe

yes. you'll be at 3.0 liters and just over 10:1 compression ratio

this combo also works. if you want the most torque, you definitely want an iron block with s52 pistons. "there's no replacement for displacement" therefore 3.2 > 3.0

Felt something at cruise 3500rpm ,put in clutch, engine died, coasted to offramp. Restated rough, made about 3seconds of running and locked. Water and than oil later leaked out of the bottom of the dip stick overnight. Pulled the head and as I feared no piston,no cylinder wall and almost no damage to the head (caught small parts in 2valves) . I think the cylinder wall was too thin , And will never know. Next time stock s52 pistons in a block . Keep this thread going as it's contents are the core of our dreams . Joe
What was the block bored to?

that does not work. you need to use m54 pistons if you're going to use s52 crank and 135mm rods. but do the iron block. i'm the only one allowed to use my aluminum block

    What to do again?

So I'm thinking the second time around I might want to do the z3 aluminum block.I'd use my s52 crank and 135mm rods into the z3 block with the stock z3 pistons. Does this combo work ? I've searched and have not been clear on anyone using this combo. Is it as streight up as some make it sound doing ? Other direction is to just get a m50 block (again) this time using standard s52 pistons. On the M50 blocks, are the non vanos really thicker or just an old fish wifes tale ?? Thanks , Joe
