    knock sensor, there should be two of them on the intake side of the block.

      Bingo. You should see 2 studs they mount on, and the wire orients at about the 10 o'clock position facing the block to connect to the harness where the support for it is just behind the vanos solenoid.

        Be sure to figure out which one is 1-3 knock sensor and which knock sensor is 4-6. Just FYI they are different.

            Motor would get confused if it started pinging in 1-3 but it was on 4-6 then it would be messing w/ the wrong spark. I don't completely understand all of that, but that's how I believe it works.

                the knock sensor has only one part number so they can't be specific to the front or rear mounting point.

                    All they do is sense the knock you should be fine as long as the harness is setup right the sensors dont matter front to rear but make shure your harness is hooked up right though or i will get confused.(best of my knowledge)

                      The sensors themselves are the same, but the plugs that they connect to on the engine harness are 1-3/4-6 specific.
