    Motor almost in.

Allright I have my motor almost in but ran into this problem. It needs to go back about 1.25" to sit onto the motor mounts, but will not because the shifter linkage will not go back any further. What am I missing ?

    Car: 1991 318is

    Motor: m52

    Trans: 240

Mounts: I think from a 535 or somtehing some one on here gave me the part# they look right just got to get it back about another inch.

Do I need different linkage or do I need to shorten mine ?

You should snap a picture to show us exactly what your talking about. Is the engine in the bay, as in has it cleared the front support?

Which shifter linkage are you using? You cannot use the stock 318is one, it has to be shortened.

Not sure how much it is by...1.5" or so

Put the engine in without the linkage and then measure. That is what I did for mine...it was pretty simple

Sweet! What was your method of moding the linkage ? Where did you place your cuts? etc...

No need to go for custom linkage, the E36 325i linkage will fit fine.

                    with the 240 trans?

I cut the carrier and used some angle iron to bolt it together. I cut and welded a tube over the selector rod.

                      hmmm...

I sorta did the same thing and my carrier broke which wasn't pretty driving home using only 1st,3rd and 5th in rush hour..I eneded up getting my carrier welded and that was that though i could of saved the headache by just using E36 325i linkage.

Yes im talking about the 240 trans.
