I don't doubt the 2JZGTE's potential, the weight worries me more than anything else. And I disagree with whoever said the M20 doesn't have as much potential as a 2JZ. It has more. The 2JZ already has forced induction and already is a powerhouse. You can take an M20 and boost it with turbo or supercharger or NOS and put out a hell of a lot of power. The 2JZ's potential is less because it comes pre-built.
Ummm?! Lots of 1000hp m20's out there. I'm not basing the m20, b/c damn it just doesn't die, but I don't think you can say it has more potential then a 2jz.

so do real supras, has nothing to do with the car, its all susp. tires and skill

im just sayin, seems to me like people who do swaps either go M30 or S/M 50/52. im not tryin to bitch, cause thats prob what im gonna end up doing, its an easy effective swap. its always nice to see something different tho

potential= possible power output. you would have to dump a shitload of money into an engine that wasnt desgined for boost to come anywhere near a fairly tame 2jzgte

Potential: "a latent excellence or ability that may or may not be developed."
I've explained it already. An M20 has more room for improvement primarily because it does not come stock FI. Potential as in there are more things that haven't initially been done to it. Now if they made a stock turbo'd M20, things'd be different, but the 2JZGTE is essentially the fancy'd up version of a 2JZGE and there is no GTE equivalent of an M20.

You'd have to dump a shitload of money just to have a GTE also. It evens out in the end but a turbo'd M20 producing the same power weighs less.

Look up benders car on here. He has a built s52 with a corvette rear end. Besides that 2jz wieght is a killer when you can have a built m20/m5X have plenty of power that you can put down and not just sit there and spin tires like most supras you see today.

You are so unbelievably wrong. You can make an amazing M20 turbo, but what's that net you 400rwhp? Now keep in mind i'm not arguing that the 2jz is better in the e30 b/c 400rwhp in an e30 is just plane silly. The car barley needs 300rhwp, and for 90% of e30 drivers thats way too much. But there is no way on god's green earth that the M20 has more potential then the 2jz. Now if you had said the S5x/M5x, I would have to probably agree with you, but just b/c the m20 isn't F.I. from the factory, doesn't mean it has more potential then the 2jz. Keep in mind one of your very first problems, SOHC vs DOHC. The 2JZGE can handle well over 500whp from the factory, with NO internal build what so ever. The 2JZGTE can handle 700 or 800whp with all factory internals and there are guys that have hit the 1000whp mark on the stock block, not saying that it lasted very long but they did it. I still don't the how M20 could ever match up. Any of the M5x/S5x I could totally agree with your argument of they are not factory F.I. and could possibly have the same potential as the 2JZ series.

                  of course it fits

what other stock engine can handle 1000whp from the factory....besides the s54

Some people have pushed M20's well beyond 400hp. The potential comes from that it has more things that can be done to it. Since the 2JZGTE comes turbo'd stock, that's one less thing you could do. What I meant about the 2JZGE is that it has as much potential as an M20 since it doesn't already come pre-built from the factory. It's really all a mater of semantics.

I don't meant to bash the 2JZ's, it's just my take on it. It's pretty cool by me if somebody wants to swap one of them into their car. My only really big objection is the fact that it weighs a shit ton.

m20 definently is a great motor, but you'll be investing in rods and pistons, at the least pistons to get it to the extreme power levels that people are pushing on stock internals on the 2jz.

Don't get me wrong thought the bmw motors are pretty overbuild from the factory. If i had an e30 a m50 swap with turbo would be the first order of business. I mean it bolts straight into the car with engine mounts, pan ect and can be used with a bmw transmission.

Supra swap you'll most likely end up breaking the bank, spending at least 1000 bucks on an mkiii 5 speed swap.

im so sick of the jap swap questions!
putting a jap engine in a euro car is like fucking a donut with sashimi! don't do it!

yeah, I'm saying though, the cost of swapping a 2jz compared to the cost of pimping out an M20 and staying euro. $/Power/Weight ratio = 2JZ Lose.

i dont think you actually understand what potential means.....

potential has nothing to do with the amount of modifications you can do to an engine, rather, potential is the ultimate goal. how much power you can get out of it, not if it came from the factory with a turbo

                                LOL this thread is hilarious.

OP throw a 2jz in that bish a get it done. I think theyre great motors and theyre very similar to the m50 series motors.

If you can tune your shit, a M52 is proven to make close to 700whp with a 0.140" MLS head gasket, ARP head studs, and a big turbo kit (Stock internals, stock head with no port work, stock s52 cams... Basically stock with a HG and ARP head studs) . I dont know if id be worried about breaking one at the hp levels your looking for. Im assuming you arent looking at any more than 500whp just cause you mentioned a turbo m20.
