944/924 Brake Booster with e30 325i MC? anyone running this?

I was wondering if anyone here was running this combo?

If so, is the pedal feel the same as a stock e30 or does it feel like it is running the 320i booster on a e30 MC?

And does it matter which brand of booster it is? ATE or Girling? mounting is identical for the MC side?

Is it possible to run the 944/924 MC?

I have searched many sites as well as read through the DOHC swap thread, but i can't find any answers on how it feels compared to the 320i converted booster...

    TIA

I ran an Ate 944 booster with the stock E30 master cylinder. I would say the braking felt around the same as a 320i booster with the stock master cylinder.

A lot of people hem and haw that the 320i booster isn't that powerful. IMO there's plenty of boost and it's not like I have mega strong legs or something.

I'm not sure if you can run the stock 944 MC. I could have sworn it was a stepped bore MC in some years, but I'm not sure.

when doing my swap i searched and searched and tried various boosters. the 944 booster mounts were the exact configuration as the e30, but the bolts did not slide thru. the booster is designed slightly differently. i also tried 3 different boosters from the mk1 gti and had similar problems.

i ended up going with the modified booster from treehouse racing, paired with the stock MC on my 318is. i actually love the way it feels. the pedal is very firm, and although it does require some extra effort, i wouldnt have it any other way. i never have to worry about a soft pedal or anything like that. i contemplated upgrading to the bigger bore MC off the e32s or e30 m3s, but after driving the car for several thousand miles, i feel this is the perfect setup.

EDIT: oh yea and i went with the treehouse racing booster because cutting and rethreading that rod on the other boosters was a real PITA. (and i actually work at a garage with the tools to do it)

I think the 944 booster changed over the years. I got mine from an 83 944, and both the firewall mounting pattern and the MC mounting pattern were exactly the same. I merely chopped the input rod to around 4" in length, and threaded it with a die. The benefit of the 944 booster is that the rod is already 10mm in diameter, so it threads easily.

i found my booster in an early vw rabbit at a junk yard for 30 bucks. can't remember the year, but it was a very early one. the mounting pattern is the same on the master cylinder side and also on the firewall side. the rod was too long and the bad news was that after the threads, the rod diameter was about 1/16 of an inch larger. so....my solution was to take both boosters apart. i used the rod assembly from the larger e30 booster in the one from the rabbit. now....i can't say that i have driven it down the road yet, (still working on my swap) but i feel confident it will turn out fine.

oh, btw.....i went down to my local friendly neighborhood parts store a month or so back. they actually have photos of the parts and i had them search for the e21, the porche, and the rabbit. all of the boosters had very similar part numbers(within a didgit or two) and they looked exactly the same except for minor differences in the input rod.

i went to a local parts store and they said the 83-90 944 boosters have the same part number (mounting to an ATE MC)...

Al_GReeNeRy which year booster was the one that you tried? was it turbo or non-turbo?
