    Food for thought

Has anybody given any background checks on putting a cadillac cts 3.2 or 3.6 litre motor in one of our beloved e30's? They are all aluminium, hence weight savings; the CTS is the 3-series compitition[very good compitition] and last but not least they are cheap and readily available.

can't be too different from puttin in an ls motor. I"m not too familiar with cadillac so pardon my ignorance, but doesn't the cts-v have an ls series motor in it?

      I am fairly sure the new CTS-V has a de-tuned LS6 with 556hp

The CTS-V has the V-8 motor but the CTS has the LY series motors that have a displacement between 2.6-3.6 litres depending on options and they are all available with manual trannies.

All the CTS manual 5-speed were made by GETRAG. I do not know ifit is the same 260 trom the bmw. Some of the LY6 make up to 320 fwhp. The Catera I think is fwd.

the early CTSv's had a real ls6 with 400hp, the new ones had a detuned ls9 (supercharged) with 550+ hp.

Very interesting idea. I think the toughest part would be fitting a brake booster and getting the exhaust to clear steering components.

For the brakes you could either run a boosterless setup, hydroboost (from 524td), or a remote booster (ie E34 540i)

I think custom headers would be the only way to go but they would be very expensive to have done (and difficult to do without alot of fab experience)

Since the motor is DOHC it might be too wide for the engine bay. Oil pan clearance is another issue to consider.
