    Temp Sensor

Im busy doing the s50b30(euro) swap, there is a cover side of the head which houses 2 coolant temp sensors, one is a REMOTE THERMOMETRE SENDING UNIT and the other is a TEMPERATURE SENSOR, WATER, this is according to the ETK.
i assume the second one sends signal to the cluster so that should be the one that should be swapped with the e30 brown sensor?????

    Help please

On my s52 the second one (as in closest to the firewall) was the temp sensor for the gauge. but thats also U.S. i assume its the same.

:).. sorry , i meant b32, actually its a mix of both, b32 bottom end with b30 top half...

after replacing the sensor with the brown e30 one, do i have to run a new wire to the c101/x20 or can i use the one on the e36 harness?????

^In the US swaps you use the same plug that is already in the E36 harness.

only thing that worries me is that the e36 plug to the temp sensor has 2 pols(pins) and the e30 brown one has only one... dont know how many the US ones have , help please

That doesnt matter. The E36 plug has a power wire and a ground wire. The E30 sensor only needs the power because the power is grounded through the body of the sensor to the cylinder head.

To make you feel more sure of it, I have the E36 connector with the single pole sensor and it works just fine.

i know that this is off the thread topic but do u perhaps know how to wire the e34 oil level sensor to the static and dynamic on the wire harness...... just asking

I Unplugged the e36 temp sensor in order to fit the e30 one but i just started the car to see what happens and the car misses alot, as soon as i plug it back in its fine..... i thought the blue switch(e36) was only for the cluster??? what am i doing wrong?

One of the two temperature sensors is for the DME and the other is for the cluster guage. Sounds like you disconnected the plug for the DME, which would be the one towards the front of the motor on a US motor.

im confused, according to the etk i disconnected the correct one(blue), the system says that the black one is the one to the dme, any other suggestions.... bear in mind that i disconnected the plug on an actual m3 and not a swapped e30

Try unplugging the black one, then see how it runs. Maybe you'll get lucky and only the temp guage will be dead.

okay, i tried unplugging the black one, for some reason the temp gauge still works also when i unplug the blue one , the temp gauge still works, only when i unplug both does the gauge stop working.....

                          now im really confused

For an S50B32....The connector with brown and brown/red wire is for the DME. The connector with the brown/yellow and brown/purple is for the cluster.

First rule of E30 motor swaps...learn how to read the ETM.

thanks, thats the exact colours brown/red on the blue switch and brown/yellow on the black switch.

u right about the ETM, im really bad at reading them.
