    Temperature sensor revisited

I have read alot about people needing to rethread the M20 sensor when swapping it over to their twincam motor.

I am wondering if there was a TU on the twincam heads that made this a requirement or am I missing something?

I have an M50TU from an E34 that I'm dropping into my 90' 325i in the next few weeks and Ive been doing alot of the work ahead of time.

I ordered a new M20 temp sensor (single wire) and when I got it I tested to see if indeed there was a thread difference. Because from what I recalled....they were the same. Indeed the sensor threaded right in, no questions asked.

So Im wondering.....what the hell is going on here??? lol Or am I missing something?>

    Sensor #12 is required.....p/n 12621710512

For reference, here is the same sensor from AutohausAZ's site....

Its listed as such: "Temperature Sender Switch; For Temperature Gauge; 1 Pin Injector Type Connection with Tan Insulator"

This sensor threads right into the middle port on the twin cam head (rear sensor hole) middle by meaning from front to back ...sensor to DME....sensor to gauge.....throttle body coolant line port

You only have to rethread the sensor or tap the head if you are installing an OBDII motor that had a single temp sensor for both the ECU and the dash.
