    stuttering issues

So I'm starting to experience a lot of stuttering, hesitations, and backfiring. It ranges from idle, to WOT, to any time randomly going at a constant pace for example.. i'm driving 45 mph and all the power just cuts off and then comes back, or vice versa, i'm driving 45 at like 3k rpm then it will spike to like 3600 rpm like i kinda pressed the gas. At idle sometimes it will go up to 1600 then to like 800 then to 1600, 1500 1400 1300 1200 1100 rpms and just keep continuing that cycle. I checked for vac leaks but couldn't locate any, i have a fealing it's either the oxygen sensor or the TPS (throttle posistioning sensor). Any ideas guys? Other then that the car seems to run great, but it gets annoying due to how jerky it feels when it cuts of and then GOES.

    thanks,

    -Abe.

edit: this went away, the car drove fine for a few days and then it just died on me while i was on the highway, (thanks e30..).

    Current problem/s:
Check engine light does not work (Wiring adapter)?
Diagnostics plug does not work (Wiring adapter)?
    car does not start.

I've changed the o2 sensor and the CPS, no luck.

    fault codes?

It could be a million different things. I think stuttering is prolly one of the hardest things to diagnose especially over the computer but it seems more of an O2 sensor then a TPS. TPS generally goes bad at only certain positions of the throttle not throughout the entire range.

Change the O2 sensor. See if you can get it hooked up to a scan tool to see if there are any fault codes.

update: changed o2 sensor, was not the problem, car seemed to run a little bit better but still had the hiccups occur.

still thinking it's the TPS sensor. I was not able to take the car in and get it scanned, i don't want to drive it that far with this problem.. I'm thinking this could also be a vac leak, air sensor problem and a ICV issue(kinda doubt) ?

and for the most part the car idles great, every few minutes it might have a hiccup here or there but then it will settle back to normal idling. Blah.

Did you check the icv? I had mine just barly off and the car ran like crap. Check the boot that goes on it and the part that goes into the manifold.

What motor do you have? Scanning would help big time. I still don't think it's gps but throwing parts at it is prolly the worste idea

IIRC, its an obd1 s52. My first suggestion was pulling codes, or the stomp test if possible.

i can't do the stomp test because my check engine light does not work for some reason, even in start mode. I swapped out my TPS with my friends m3 and the problem continued.. i'm out of ideas.

what's sad is i've had 30 thousand tiny problems like this occur since i put this swap together which was over a year ago, and i still haven't been able to get the car up to daily standards..

by check what do you mean? I made sure all the hoses connecting to it where on there tight in case of vac leak. I really don't know if a ICV can cause the car to be doing all this though. That's just my tho.

It might beable to if it was clogged some how. I was saying to make sure all the vac hoses are on there good and tight. Get a scan tool on to see if any codes are coming up.
