So my starter (I thought) won't engage the flywheel anymore, it just would whirr. I bought the car swapped and was wondering if I can tell a difference between the two flywheels by looking through the starter hole? I put a new M50 starter in and it still won't engage the flywheel. Could it be anything else other than the wrong starter?

Well see, I didn't know what the old starter was. I (foolishly) assumed that if it had an e36 tranny then it should have an e36 clutch/flywheel. And Shuck's isn't too helpful, when I went to return the new one they wouldn't let me because they said it had been connected even though when I bought it the guy said I could take it back no problem if it didn't work.
The weird thing is when I went back they tested the new starter to make sure it worked, it did. But I also had them test my old starter (which I should have done but didn't know they did) and it worked as well. Extended and retracted as normal. Weird.
Anyway I'm gonna swing by on Monday or Tuesday and talk to their manager and pick up an M20 starter and report back.

Success! Well not quite. She turns over but won't fire. I also replaced both fuel lines (cracked) that go to the fuel rail. It takes like 10+ tries and it finally starts but immediately dies. I must have forgotten to hook something back up (coulda sworn I got everything though). Will investigate more tomorrow.
