    E36 Throttle Body Doesn't Close

I've been in the process of finishing up my M50 swap into my E30 and just put on the intake manifold and fuel components. I notice the throttle body is pretty nasty so i degrease it it and spray it with some WD-40. I pull on the tab where the throttle cable meets to body and notice when I release it the butterfly flap doesnt close all the way and over all the whole thing just doesn't seem to open and close too easy.

The butterfly is never supposed to be fully horizontal right?

Is there some remedy or something I should soak this whole unit in to make sure there's no crud in the springs or grooves or anything?

    Thanks guys!!

I know this must seem obvious to you, but this is my first swap and first BMW, have patience with me please.

Can you elaborate more this set screw? Where it is located and how it should be adjusted?

This thing doesn't close at all!

      Thanks man, appreciate it!

it adjust with a small flat head screwdriver and if you look for it you will see it.

Ok maybe I'm just retarded but all I see is 2 allen key set screws, one that appears to not effect anything and one that if tightened or loosened would still not help my current situation.

          I quit.

make sure your throttle cable is not kinked or binding in any way.

The two screws on each side at the bottom

You do have the correct throttle cable?

The throttle body isn't even hooked up to the car yet, and yes I have the E34 throttle cable.

And I guess I was confused because the set screws are not flathead.

In that CAD, the set screw on the right, adjusting that, what will that do?

Do you think if i just go ahead and mount the throttle assembly and hook up the throttle cable it might be normal? maybe it's because I have it sitting here and it could be in a different perspective.

Adjusting that set screw on the left will not help the problem of the butterfly not closing either.

The issue with the TB is that when the throttle is released, it does not want to fully close, meaning it's not returning to the idle screw. You can force it closed, but it just seems to stick.

The way it is now I would bet it'd idle at about 2000 rpm if installed. I think taking it apart may be the only solution.

Throttle body is fixed. The throttle linkage/spring mechanisms were bent causing the butterfly not to close properly. Guess where I bought the M50 they must have hit that shit or knocked it into something when removing the engine.

Thanks for all your help guys, and as for the guys who kept saying set screws, next time read title of my thread first. This had nothing to do with adjusting idle speed. But hey you live and learn.

Dude, for serious, we were all under the notion that you had properly working mechanicals, it's not our fault we couldn't tell you your shit was bent. In a properly working component, a maladjusted TB would be caused by improper adjustment. Not that the crappy junkyard you got your bits from slammed into your longblock with a forklift.

I understand what you're saying. That was definitely my bad on not identifying the bent brackets. But in any way would adjusting one of those set screws have ANY THING to do with the throttle body not being able to close?

Go take a look at your and tell me how.

I appreciate your input though, I didn't mean to come off so offensive.

                          Have a good weekend!

Yes, the screw on the left could make your TB not close fully.
