    240 trans with a s52...

I currently am running a m50 with the 240 trans. I really like the gearing I have, 240 trans with the 3.73. I am thinking of stepping up to a s52 or maybe even 'just' a s50. Would the 240 trans handle the extra power of the s52/s50? Also I am currently running a m20 flywheel and stock m20 clutch, would the m20 clutch handle the s52? This is a street driven car....

    thanks

If you shift easy-ish it shouldnt blow up. Jordan blew up two or 3 240's, but he is apparently pretty rough on transmissions ie. always shifts hard and as fast as possible. If I hadnt had a 260 for my S52 car I wouldnt have hesitated to use the 240.

I've seen the stock M20 flywheel/clutch/pressure plates hold 400hp in turbo cars, so S50/52 shouldnt be a problem for it.

This was what was left of one of Jordon's 240's behind a s52...

Good point. I guess I should have mentioned that the transmission isnt 100% *ideal* haha.

        Nice picture.

I am planning on doing the same thing with my 91 318is. What release bearing are you using? Are using a stock driveshaft or is it from something else. I wanted to retain my 4.10 lsd with the 240 trans. Is there any problems with this set up? Thanks.

I have the same setup. I'm using a M20 single mass flywheel, disk and pressure plate with a Euro 323i throw out bearing. You use the E36 5spd shaft with a E30 support bearing installed backwards and a E30 M20 shift carrier and selector rod. The gearing stays exactly the same as the 318.

Thank you. That is just what I was looking for. Did u need to modify the trans crossmember?

Describing Jordo's experiences and posting those pics is absolutely worthless in ANY transmission thread.
He shifts like a fuckface and tears up any and all trans no matter what is powereing them.

I have the 240 already and everything is already setup to run the 240 so I will probably give that a shot first. I have a lift so its easy to change out if it explodes. It was be a easy m50 out s52 in weekend

More power to you, man. i remember when i first did my swap everyone was talkin shit about my little 240, but its lasted way longer than even i thought it would. and my car is a daily driver that i rape all the time. Apparently the getrag 240 is rated at 240lb of torque i forget where i read that. but anyways i think you be fine if you dont money sift or anything.

it's been said here before: cars don't kill transmissions, people do
