    soon to go s 50 / getrag 260..."rebld" drivshaft?

Hey all......about to embark on an s50 swap using my 125k mile getrag 260 and driveshaft.......

Ill do a new center bearing of course.....

my mechanic feels that an oe 125k driveshaft w/ orig u jts should be freshened up, esp considering itll now have to deal w/ 240 hp....I am just not sure this is needed....but I can be swayed....any1 here do this....new u jts and "zerx" fittings?...

It would cost several hundred dolla bills yall.......skip it?....or do it?....I dont recall any1 ever doing it here.

    Joel,

In addition to the CSB, definitely do the guibo as well. I think its less than $50.

As far as a driveshaft rebuild, I'd say skip it for now. Though an S50 will put an increased amount of stress on your driveline, if you weren't having problems before, than you shouldn't have any now. Just my $.02, but others may say go for it.

If you drive smooth (i.e. not shift hard and fast), that would also contribute to less wear in the driveline.

HTH and look forward to chatting with you at LRP this year.

you will have to pay a machine shop to cut the joints out, machine the yokes, and press in new "greaseable" joints, and balance the unit

      or buy a new shaft

i say skip it, just drive it until the driveshaft gives out, which may be a long time. spend the $$ on something more fun.

Things are good, hope all is well with you too.

I'm set for April 10th with the CVC, then I may try another track. Maybe Watkins Glen or Thunderbolt.

              You doing yours w/ NASA?

OP, can you type in ENGLISH next time. I now have a headache after reading your post.

I say skip the rebuild. Its not like a driveshaft is that hard to replace if it goes bad.

Plus one. If it isnt broken, dont mess with it. I would never rebuild a driveshaft if there was no play in the U-joints. No point in my opinion.

For what it's worth, my driveshaft is all original (U-joints anyway) with 250k-ish on it. My S52 hasnt managed to blow it up yet.

It seems kind of clear to me Ill leave the ds alone....till it breaks. I appreciate all the input..you guys rock.

yup. The drive shaft im using on my swap has over 200k, but the csb was recently replaced and the u joint operated smoothly, and even now with 10k or so its still fine.
