    Gearbox spacing

How close is the gearbox to the body in the tunnel when doing the s50 swap, im using the getrag 260 box, the problem im having is the driveshaft is touching the selector lever when in motion...

thats a pretty normal issue in an E30......especially if you change the gear shift lever out for one with a shorter throw. Most people just remove the selector rod and bend a little kink in it right above the driveshaft flange so it no longer makes contact.

and i thought i had major problems, i waqs about to strip the whole gearbox mountings and lever to check the problem,

so its normal for the gearbox to sit so high up in the tunnel, mine feels like its touching the top, do u have a pic or something to help me on what to bend or kink? i did change the lever to the short throw M3 lever....it feels as if its touching on the bottom of the lever...

What gearbox mounts are you using and did you modify the original cross member?
Does yours have the large metal ring around the flex disk or "guibo"

That did it right there. A short throw shifter has a longer shaft under the nylon cup........which lowers the mounting point of the linkage.......which then causes the linkage to contact the driveshaft.

Crawl under there and mark the spot on your linkage where it contacts. Then pull the linkage out and slightly bend the linkage in a vise using that mark as the bend point. I don't have a pic handy, but do a few searches......its been covered many times.

i used one e30 mounting on the one side and an e28 mounting on the higher side, i did not modify the cross member as the mountings made up for th tilt. Mine does not have the large metal ring on the guibo....

im gonna try that and so some searches for more info, one more question that also could have led to the problem....

when i first fitted the motor the driveshaft was short, so i loosened the collar nut and extended it a bit and tightened everything up. Then i found that i needed more space on the intake side for the plenum so i changed one mounting arm which gave me the extra space but also kind of moved the whole motor a little back. Would the moving of the motor back cause a problem with the gearbox/driveshaft ? remember it was all bolted up when the motor moved slightly back.
