    spring ugrade

I have an early 318i so should i upgrade to 6cyl springs for an s50 swap? Will the 6cyl. springs fit and would the brakes be too weak? (rear drums)

You need springs that are stiffer than stock, ideally. I've got Vogtland springs (between H&R Sport and Race as far as spring rate) and under 85% throttle the rear compressed enough to put my tires into the sheet metal. I rolled the wheel well out a bit and that solved that, but that still doesnt change the fact that I tuck a ton of tire under full throttle. I'm looking into coilovers now.

My brakes are discs on all 4 corners and I feel that that setup is slightly inadequate. It stops alright, but on your car I'd at least put the rear disc brakes on.

thanks. i currently have non vented rotors up front and would like to upgrade so what do i have to change out to get vented rotors and disc brakes in the rear? i found a 325i in the wreckers so i guess i could use the calipers and mounting brackets new rotors and pads. i imagine the same for the rear.veet

If I remember right, the early 318i's have unique (smaller) strut housings. Get the complete front strut assemblies with the calipers, carriers, and all of that good stuff.

Not sure what it takes to convert the rear from drums to discs if you want to retain the arms. I cant remember which parts need to be transferred. Every time I've done the drum-to-disc swap in the rear I've just used the complete trailing arm assembly from a disc brake car. I'd recommend going that route, just bolt the arms in and hook up the brake lines.
