    M50/Getrag260 starting issue

I have an M50 with Getrag 260, M20 flywheel, M20 starter and clutch. The motor has been fully rebuilt, we were in the process of priming the motor for initial start up when we turned the key a LOUD squealing was coming from the starter. It seems to be not engaging. has anyone else had this problem before with this setup? Please HELP! Noob here!:D

    AND ALSO....
I have a TRM chip for my S50 cams, injectors and 3.5" HFM, and I installed it into the ECU thinking I was grounded and safe to not zap the chip. I was under the impression that the CEL should be on at key to electronics but it isn't on, could the chip be fried? Anyone else experience a chip that doesn't give CEL at key electronics?

    Thanks guys!!!

Are you absolutely certain you have the correct parts match? You already know that you need and M20 starter with an M20 flywheel, but is it possible that you mized up anything?

Pull off the starter and reinstall it. I had this issue, still due to a few damaged ring gear teeth from a pressure plate explosion, with my JBRacing M20 flywheel and a reman'd Bosch starter.

I am absolutely certain. The M50 was an automatic so there was only 1 flywheel in the first place, the M50 starter was sold, so of course I know I am using M20 flywheel, M20 starter, M20 clutch.

And the M20 ran fine 4 months ago so I don't think it's a bad starter. But hey I guess if I am taking it out again I might as well get it tested. Thanks.

I have heard before that that has worked for people. interesting, maybe if there is play in the starter as it bolts in, I just have to direct it better for synched engagement.

Have you heard of people have to cut that backing plate between the motor and transmission?

          Thanks guys!!!;)

You could cut the backing plate, I actually had to shave a portion of it towards the outside of the bellhousing to open up the hole some. I would leave the bolt holes in the plate in place because they do actually help space the starter away from the ring gear a little bit.

I'm STILL troubleshooting honestly. I've made the holes in the transmission bigger to enable the starter to move around better and I cut out the top part of the backing plate to adjust the height better. I'm going to do some other things and see what I can come up with.

                This car hates me!

So I fixed it... shaved most of the backing plate around the hole. Made the holes in the starter quite larger to enable movement. Then I just hand tightened the nuts/bolts and just moved the starter in different positions till it cranked fine and the grinding/squealing was gone. It seems that, that's all you really can do is keep taking it in and out, moving it into different positions till finally after the 50th time it will work. Haha. Thanks for all help!
