Which would be the better option?

After playing around with different engine mounting arms and mounts i finally got the motor to sit snug but have a choice of how i would like it to sit....

option 1: motor would sit straight with the gearbox going high into the tunnel, almost touching the padding or maybe even touching.

option 2: motor would be slightly tilted towards the firewall and the tappet cover would touch the firewall but the gearbox would sit in almost the original position...

i am using the s50 with 260 getrag tranny, which would be the better option to choose, with option 1 i would obviously use spacers or modify the gearbox cross member to be higher on one side,
with option 2 i use the stock cross member with very small spacers on the mountings...and the intake plenum is quite tight...

    please help

There is actually a guy on here (white325is I think) who makes custom brackets for this specific combination. That would put everything right where you want it to be.

thanks for the help but i think the distance is a problem, shipping would be expensive as well as my weak currency against the dollar but thanks anyway....

      anyone else have any ideas?

Search around here more. I have seen (but can't remember where) on here about a combination of E28 mounts and E30 mounts with the stock cross member that works well.

Maybe one of the 24V gurus will chime in with a link or an explanation.

Keep in mind he's from SA so his s50 is the real one, not our 3.0 liter m50...

Personally i think keeping the tranny in the original position would be better just because of drive shaft angles and whatnot. And technically your CG would be that much lower but i doubt itd be noticeable. Let someone more knowledgeable chime in though.

          Good luck figuring it out!

Well the guibo does not have a U-joint. Only the first connection before the CSB. You are going to want the guibo tohave even load across all the bolts so you do not prematurely wear it down.

i used the e28 mount and e30 mount on the stock cross member and works fine, then it sits with the gearbox high in the tunnel...both ways work , obviously the selector rod needs to be bent, which i still have to do but other than that touching there is seems to be nothing wrong with both the ways....????
