    M50tu from a 95 525i with EWS engine harness

Im in searching for a new harness for my burnt e34 525i with ews harness.

what harnesses will swap directly over. from what i understand the e36 harness works and is supposedly identical. From the extra e36 one i have they are far from the same but maybe im just crazy

Yeah, a 93/94/95 e36 harness will work. The other benefit is the e36 harness' DME connector is long enough to mount in the stock e30 position.

Your confusion may lie in the automatic/manual harness differences.

Oh, a 93 e36 harness is Vanos. The Air Meter connector on the NV harness is a 6-prong, the Vanos one is 4-prong. There are also other things like knock sensors missing on that harness too. You cant use it, unless you run the engine non-vanos.

Actually the US e34 was non-Vanos for model year 1991 + 1992 while the E36 was non-Vanos for model year 1992 only.
All of the 1993 model year M50's were Vanos engines.

          E30 M3 / E30 325is / E34 525iT / E34 535i
