I had the dme located in the glove box but with the e39 harness and the adapter i bought are too long, they took up the whole space and the glove box became unusable. So i decided to use the stock e46 DME housing and locate everything in the engine bay on the passenger side. I chopped about 3 and half inches off the bottom of the housing to get it to clear the hood and cut a piece of plexi glass to shape to close off the bottom. Its fits perfectly in this space and frees up the glove box. The harness is a tight fit inside the box but it works. Heat maybe an issue for the DME with the housing being on the exhaust side of the engine bay and I might try applying some reflective material later on.
