    Biggest oil cooler in use?

Trying to find the biggest oil cooler someone has used. I want to use a fluidyne cooler that is 28x4x3.5, which is slightly bigger than the turner e46 m3 upgrade cooler which is slightly bigger than the stock e46 m3 cooler but still fits.
I guess I am going to have to make some custom brackets out of flat aluminum and then screw/bolt them into ______? What is everyone's mounting solution? I may keep e30 rad and I may go z3m, undecided.

    I used a 26.1" x 3.4" x 4.3" from Mishimoto - with custom brackets. I also used their e36 M3 upgraded rad.

Thanks for the response. The height and width are similar. On your second pic, is the cooler mounted in between those black pieces of metal coming off the core support or below them? If below then what I want to run should work, but if between then it looks like 26 inches is the maximum.
Do you have any pictures of the brackets you used, just so I can get an idea?

Do you mean the brackets as in the first pic ? yes it sits in between those custom brackets - if the cooler was wider you could still use it and just spread the brackets out wider.

Ill see if i can find some better pics of the brackets.

Oh I see...those black metals on either side are your brackets. For some reason I was thinking that was where the condenser sits. You don't still happen to have the templates or measurements of the brackets do you?
I live in Texas and will be retaining AC, should still fit yeah?

We welded some brackets on to the cooler so that it is a bolt-on affair to those plates on each side with the two holes.

The brackets could be any size to be honest as all of it is custom fitted. My car is not running AC or power steering so did not have to contend with those being in the way (or not).

Here is another pic - I have to retrack what i said before as it looks like the front tow hook may get in the way if the cooler is any wider. I have to confess that my car is being built for the track so anything unwanted or unused was taken off so I may have had more room to play with than a stock car.

I see. Nothing in the way on the US drivers/UK passenger side though right? So it could just be off center some, just 2" or so toward the side opposite the tow hook side? Sorry my e30 is in another city an hour away at the moment or I would just go look myself. Thanks for all your help

Bumping this...looks like the monster fluidyne I got will probably be too big. I think it juts too far inbound and will interfere with where the crank pulley and/or PS pump lives.
Has anyone used the e46 m3 oil cooler? If so, does it require the s54 z3m radiator or will it work with a stock late model e30 rad in place?

The E46 M3 cooler doesn't really fit anywhere well, not with stock lines anyway. I have S54 z3m radiator, there's no airflow to sit it underneath (plus its too low, pokes underneath). Too thick with the pipe running across the back to sit it behind the radiator.

I have it sitting behind my front valance. Will take some pics tonight. Doesn't fit properly and won't let me fit the Mtech2 bumper because it sits in the way of the brake duct due to where the oil lines have to go into it on the back.

I have it on there at the moment just to get it around but it isn't mounted it just sitting there held in place by the pipes and sitting against the valance, changing it to an aftermarket one once I get the oil line adapter plate.

The s54 oil cooler really doesn't fit under the cutout for the Z3m radiator (17112227281)?
The s54swap.com site suggests using that cooler and radiator together will fit...hmm

The stock e30 cooler is ~20x1.5x3, that is including the "tanks" at the ends, so the core is a bit smaller than that. The only coolers i can find that are roughly 2x3 are very short, only 12-15". I saw a thread on another forum where someone fit an Earl's EAR-81310ERL between the valance and radiator, which is 4x14x2. The surface area of this is roughly equivalent to the surface area of a stock e30 cooler.
The aftermarket options tend ot not have the "tanks" on the sides like the stock version, so maybe the core is pretty close in comparison?

I can't find a BTU rating on the E30 cooler like there are for aftermarket coolers, so it's hard to compare. If a newer cooler is more efficient at a smaller size, I would be interested in that.
The Elephant Motorsports E30 "upgrade oil cooler" is a setrab 50-910-7612, which is 14x1.8x3 rated at 19-27k BTU.

Z3M radiator fits. Z3M oil cooler fits but is blocked by all air flow.

Interested in getting this information right before I embark on the retro-fit. I have the stock E30 M cooler right now.

Anyone have any more info on this? I have a mishimoto alum z3 rad that I'm planning on running. Have the Vac Oil cooler AN10 adaptor. I currently have the stock E30 cooler than I was going to run but now I'm thinking of something a bit bigger.
