So I did it once with the engine out of the car (old style with inner spring) and it looked perfect but apparently had a very slow leak from the surface between the seal and the timing case cover.
I ordered 2 new seals and got the shitty "new" design elring ones without the inner spring. Over the course of a few hours I have destroyed them both. I can not get these motherf****ng things on no matter what I try. The problem is I can't "draw" them on since I have an early s54 with the 4 bolts instead of just one. I also can't seem to get anything round and flat to tap it on bc of the dowel pin that sticks out from the front of the crank.
I see in the official docs I need some special bmw tools. I'm done spending hundreds of dollars on tools I will use once for this car, but fine...however I can't #&$#ing find the tools referenced in the TIS anywherr, either for sale or rent.
How do you get the crank seal on? It's the only thing stopping me from enjoying this car and I can't afford to destroy seal after seal. Now that I have to order more, I'm already losing another week...again
