    s54 throttle issue

    Hi Gang,

A have an issue with my s54 / e30 swap. I put a new fresh motor into the car and it has sat for the last 2 years while work and family commitments got in the way.

#1 no start - on occasion (intermittent) the ITBs do not cycle at startup when power and ignition circuits are energized (this results in a no start). This can be remedied by unplugging and re plugging the TPS at the front of the engine. Effectively if I see the ITBs cycle the car fires right up, if it doesn't than the car will just crank.

#2 engine when running has a high idle. Approx 1300rpm

I scanned and got the following codes:

    0121 - throttle / pedal position A - circuit range perm problem
    0123 - throttle / pedal position A - circuit high
1637 - throttle valve position control
0444 - evaporate emissions purge control open

I cleared the codes and have subsequently checked both TPSs and the pedal and they all test fine across all pins. Only thing I did notice is that one of the voltage pins on the pedal (pin 5 or 3) which should show 5v shows 4v. This is with the pedal unplugged and comes direct from the ECU IIRC.

Although I haven't put any miles on the car since clearing I have started and shut down a number of times and the codes have not returned but the conditions described are still present.

    Any ideas? Thank you

The ITBs should only cycle the very first start. The cycle is just so the DME can learn their behavior.

You might have a short somewhere pulling one of your DME's 5V rails low.

I should correct. I am not talking about a full WOT cycle, just the short 10mm movement or so.
