Trans in between T-case leak? (UPDATE)

I have a 1989 BMW 325ix with an automatic transmission. I recently replaced the output shaft seal and the transfer case seals (the one between the transfer case and the transmission). After refilling the transfer case with fluid, it has started leaking from a small hole located between the transfer case and the transmission. I'm not sure if this hole is original or was made accidentally. Can anyone help me figure out if I installed the seals incorrectly, or am I missing something?

(UPDATE) So, I cracked it open and got seals from AutoZone that were the same size, swapped them, and fixed the orientation. It was still leaking heavily when I hit right around 80, so I figured maybe they were just cheap seals. I went with OEM ones this time, cracked it open for the third time, replaced the seals—and it’s still leaking. I’m genuinely stumped on what to do next because I can’t think of anything else. I was wondering if anyone can help me out if they’ve dealt with this before.

Is there on that axle what go on the goes through that seal, any marks etc....So that seal dont sit nicely on the axle

I do have a photo of the shaft before installation, but I also found the manual afterward, and it looks like my transmission shaft seal is supposed to sit further in. That could be my issue—unless my shaft appears damaged in the photo. I didn't notice any play in the shaft when I removed it.
