A few weeks ago i did the front cv's (thanks again replicam3cab) on my new heap and put in a new exhaust to get it on the road again. The drivers side cv was completely broken, just rattling around in the hub and the exhaust had been cut behind the cat. So I finally registered it and drove it around and the steering shakes really really badly above 55. Im thinking its the tie rod ends as they were pretty worn and ripped but with 250k on it i just dont know. The whole front end needs to rebuilt but any suggestions on what this is would be greatly appreciated. Also after flushing the disgusting green coolant and changing the t-stat (stock temp) it wont heat up past the quarter mark. This thing is really starting to become a headache so please help so i dont have to drive the explorer anymore. Thanks!

Are the rims balanced?
If the tie rods look bad - replace them. They don't cost lot and are easy to change, remember to check your toe in/out latest after replacing them.- E34 M5 (x 2) -

Start with the basics make sure your air pressure is correct, then check for lose parts, worn, etc... did you have a front-end Alignment after the cv's if not you will need it. They will check for worn parts when doing the Alignment, because you can not Align with worn parts. With the temp problem does it heat up past qt mark when sitting at idle? If so bad thermostat. Could also be bad si board batteries.

Front end wobbles are usually pretty simple to track down. Jack up the front of your car and move your tires around. With the steering wheel locked in place, do the tires move at all from left to right (as if you were steering)? Up and down? In and out? Forward and back?
The tires should be more or less locked in place with no play in any given direction. With you looking and a friend moving the tire its pretty easy to spot the problem.

Dude I have the same problem but it's minor, im pretty sure it's my tires not being balancing because when I got the car it was riding on 3 lugs and when I put the new lugs in and tighted them up it cut the shake in half, my tires have not been balanced so i believe its that.

don't forget if you have a bad bearing it could shake like mad at certain speeds. I just replaced one because of it.88 325 IX DiamantSchwarz - TOURING - waiting...
